Photo of 3rd Grade Students Participating in a Lesson
Students in grade three at Burr Intermediate School are immediately engaged in the learning process at their new school. A variety of activities are available to grade three students. Students become interested in Student Council, and the Burr Reading Challenge. Students are becoming more responsible and they are cataloging their homework assignments in agenda planners.

The study of mathematics begins for grade three with topics such as algebra, geometry and measurement to name a few. Number work involves addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, graphs, money and practical real-life problem solving.  The third grade study of English Language Arts begins with students reading fiction and non-fiction texts. All classes have a silent reading time, read in groups and share their books with friends.

At Burr Intermediate School grade three students are exposed to science in science labs. Under the aegis of the grade three teachers, students conduct hands on experiments with lab partners. Students in grade three can look forward to their first experience with the Burr School-Wide Science Fair.

In social studies, grade three students study communities from all over the world, such as Japan, Mexico and Australia to name a few. Grade three students master the concepts of rural, urban, and suburban communities. A true study of culture and how others live is the emphasis for social studies.

Hey, what about those Smartboards? Grade three classrooms use the smart technology as a tool to enhance lessons in all subject areas. Students enjoy interacting with the technology.
