Accessing Parent Portal

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that beginning on Monday, November 28, 2016, the Commack Middle School will begin using an online, open gradebook through our already existing Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Using the same login information you use to review your child’s progress reports, quarterly grades and attendance, you will have the access to view your child’s progress throughout each quarter, as teachers post information about homework assignments, quizzes, tests, projects and more.

Our hope is by opening our gradebooks we will be able to better support our children by offering more and more timely information. We must emphasize, however, that the gradebook alone cannot effectively communicate a child’s progress and cannot replace communication between teachers and parents. The progress of our children and the work our staff does cannot be measured in these snapshots; therefore, the open gradebook is an additional tool not a replacement for these crucial relationships and conversations.

I also ask that you please recognize this open gradebook is new to us, so it will take time for us to determine reasonable guidelines for the entry of information. Some assignments or subject areas may post more frequently than others. So, as always, if there is a question about your child’s progress, please speak with his or her teacher(s).

For directions on accessing and using Parent Portal, please see the attached document.  If you are experiencing trouble accessing the Portal, please send an email to: [email protected].

Finally, adolescence is a time of tremendous transition. I strongly recommend that the gradebook not become a frequent topic of discussion with your child. Please focus on patterns and the process, a slow process for some, of gaining independence.

Sincerely,
Michael K. Larson
Principal
