Attendance FAQ

  1. Who do I call when my child is absent? Please call the attendance office at 631-858-3555 or 631-858-3556. The attendance office has a 24 hour voicemail. It is important that you include your child’s name (please spell out), grade, date of absence(sreason for absence(s).
  2. What if I receive a phone call that my child is absent and I know he/she is at school? DO NOT PANIC. Your child may not have been in class due to a guidance appointment, music lesson, a visit to the nurse’s office, or other related service. Prior to 11:00 AM, please call the attendance office at 631-858-3555 or 631-858-3556. After 11:00 AM, please call the main office at 631-858-3500.
  3. What do I include in an absence note? We have created an absence note template that can be used for all absences. Please use this link to locate the template. NO EMAILS WILL BE ACCEPTED. An original signature is required.
  4. How do I get the work that my child is missing due to an absence? If your child misses school for 1 or 2 days, it is best to contact a classmate or the teacher directly. Your child should also be encouraged to use their teacher’s Edmodo page or Eboard to find assignments they may have missed. When your child returns, he/she should also approach each teacher regarding any missed exams or assignments. Extra help is a great opportunity to get caught up on work and ensure understanding of assignments upon returning to school. If your child is out three or more days, please email or call their guidance counselor, and or the teachers so any work missed can be obtained.
