The reading teachers at CHS offer reading instruction in small-group settings to students who need skill development. Focus includes improving reading comprehension, phonics and decoding, fluency, and reading stamina. The reading teachers collaborate and work closely with subject area teachers and support staff.

Each individual class has curriculum specific to students' needs. Our goal is to help students learn to appreciate reading and have a deeper understanding as to why "reading for a purpose" is important. Successful readers develop active reading habits that improve their reading comprehension, speed, and enjoyment. Active reading involves deeper engagement with the text before, during, and after reading.
