Kindergartners at North Ridge participate in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. The full-day program enables the children to become involved in many hands-on experiences. They gain knowledge while learning to work and play in a happy and a fun place.

The Kindergarten curriculum is an integrated thematic approach to learning. Kindergartners will explore pre-reading activities and come to an understanding of letter/sound relationships through literature and predictable patterned text. The children will engage in Math Their Way activities while using manipulatives to explore concepts. The Harcourt math series will enable them to learn concepts such as numbers, graphing, sorting, and much more.

New Technology offers opportunities to access the Internet to view different climates. The children will gain knowledge and understanding of many animal habitats across the varied regions of the world.  The reading Program at North Ridge is called PIR (Partners in Reading).

Kindergartners will experience numerous field trips. They will attend several plays, visit a farm, see a sky show at the Vanderbilt Planetarium, go behind the scenes at the post office and supermarket, and explore while going on a scavenger hunt at the beach. They will also have an opportunity to have land animals and seashore animals visit in their classroom.

Parents will be invited to read to their child's class throughout the year. Children who become book buddies from first and second grade read and do activities with our kindergartners.

A foundation for a community of caring through ongoing personal attention to human developmental needs of the children and the success of each child, will be an important part of the day.
