North Ridge has its very own song. Click here to sing along!!!!
Music is a part of everyday life at North Ridge Primary School. The Music program at the K-2 level is designed to help all
the children discover their musical potential and encourage them to use it!
Opportunities abound in the music classroom. Children learn about melody, rhythm, form, timbre and harmony by experiencing them in carefully sequenced activities. In the music room we listen, sing, play instruments, move and compose our own music. Music classes meet once a week for forty minutes
Our room is equipped with Orff instruments, a Computer including software and a midi keyboard, a piano and ample space for movement activities. The music report card rubrics explain what the teaching goals are in the K, 1, and 2 program. Please follow the link below to review the rubric on our district's website. please note that report cards are distributed in the second and fourth marking period.
Elementary Report Card Rubrics
In addition to classroom music instruction, music is experienced at North Ridge in many other ways. As children enter the building, classical music that is highlighted in the music room is played in the halls. A patriotic song is sung throughout the school every day following morning announcements. Music is also a part of our monthly town meetings. Class plays and projects in collaboration with the classroom program get our children up on stage. Parents and classes are invited to be a part of the audience. Sing-along time features songs that build a school wide repertoire.
Every child at North Ridge has the opportunity to perform with his or her grade level during the following special events:
- Grade 2 Concert on March 31 @ 7:00p.m. at Burr
- Grade 1 Concert on April 1 @ 7:00p.m. at Burr
- Kindergarten Concert on one of the following dates, April 28, 29, 30 @ 10:00a.m.
- Grade 2 performs at their "Moving Up Day Ceremony" on June 24.
Please encourage your child's musical interests at home. Sing together, dance together, and go to concerts together. There are many concerts in our own district that they may enjoy. Information about concerts in our own district can be found at Our Schools - Music Program and schedule on the district web page.
NYSSMA solo participants can find information and registration forms on the district music site. This years deadline for registration is December 19, 2008.
The primary Music Program is the beginning of many musical opportunities available in the Commack Music Department.
