Meeting Minutes

August 2008

Dear Friends of Commack HS Students,

If you are like most families, time seems to be traveling at lightning speed. We can remember sending off our young children to kindergarten, tears in our eyes full of pride and trepidation. Wondering how our babies were going to survive in that big school without us for so many hours. We, as parents, joined the PTA, helped out in the classroom, gave up countless hours of our own time to help with fundraisers and field trips. Now, fast forward ahead to their high school years. Many parents believe they don’t need be as involved or they are “burnt out” from volunteering. Whether you are sending them for the first time entering 9th grade or the last time for them to become seniors, the anxiety and sense of excitement continues. They are becoming young adults in our world and now just as they did when they were first starting out; they still need your guidance and support.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us at our monthly PTA meetings. Here you will have the opportunity to meet and speak with our Administration, who attend every meeting, as well as hear from other parents who are experiencing the same issues and have the same concerns you do. We have representatives who are in contact with the lead departments each month and report back on upcoming curriculum changes as well as discuss any issues that may need attention.

It is just as important, maybe at times more important, that we take stay abreast of what is happening in our children’s lives while we still have the ability to mold them and help them become the strong, independent young adults they were meant to be.
I hope to see you at as many meetings as possible and look forward to serving as your President for the coming year.
