Nature's Tragedy: The Environmental Impact

   An often neglected issue in the ongoing debate of China's economic impact domestically and internationally is the pollution factor.

• China emits more metric tons of carbon dioxide than all the other East Asian countries combined, and has less access to sanitary water than their average (The World Bank)
• China was accountable for 13.9% of global carbon dioxide emission in 2000 (The World Bank)
• Japan pays China 3.1 billion to clean up its factories to prevent acid rain brought to the island by wind currents(Fishman 120)

Energy

   The demand for energy can be accredited to the increasing number of factories and automobiles. This has been projected by the OECD to create great large problems in the future. (14)
