There are students from 6 districts [towns] attending this school; all  will receive diplomas from the Greater Hartford International Academy of East  Hartford High School. A $10 million addition is being built [attached to East  Hartford High School] to house the magnet school; it will be completed in  July, 2002. This 47,000 sq. ft. addition will have a state of the art > technology infrastructure and the classroom spaces will be designed for IB  instruction.

The magnet program was started in September, 1999; currently there are 70  students in grades 9 and 10 taking pre-IB courses. During the 2001-2002 school  year, students who elect Chemistry SL or Computer Science SL will be  preparing for their exams in May, 2002. The first diploma class will be in  2002-2003.
