CONSTRUCTION TOUR of CMS & HS

At the middle school, the new gymnasium, locker rooms, and entry (foyer) structures are nearing completion. Steel and block are complete, and exterior finish work is in progress. It will be ready for use by January 2005, in time for winter sports.  The technology/music/home & careers wing exterior is nearing completion, and the plan is to accelerate the construction program over the summer in order to get the five new classrooms online by the fall.  Ground breaking for the construction of the new wing in the rear of the school will occur at the end of June.

At the high school, the foundations for the new addition have been poured and the new building will have much needed storage space in the new basement.  The blacktop pavement has been laid  for the new parking area west of the track, and preparations for graduation on the football field are complete. A new acoustically equipped room is being added to the music wing.  Work on the stairwells will begin over the summer.

Energy and cost saving electrical and mechanical equipment has been utilized, including motion sensors for the lighting. Upgraded heating systems (a second boiler at the high school and a new boiler at the middle school, Burr and Sawmill) will provide fuel savings.  "Our energy bills may  remain level with the increased efficiency of the new heating systems," remarked Kevin Carpenter,  Commack's Operation of Facilities Administrator.  "They are also dual-fuel capable, and can run on either gas or fuel oil. Rebates will be received from LIPA as well."

The basement is ready for the
concrete floors to be poured.

To match the new facade with the existing building, sample masonry mockups like these are used.

Kevin Carpenter and Tony Curreri, Project Supt. of Park East Construction, look over the plans for the music wing expansion.
