Welcome to the Music Department

The primary music program marks the beginning of many musical opportunities available in the Commack School District.  The music program at Indian Hollow is designed to help students discover their musical potential and encourage them to use it!  Activities and concepts are based on the five elements of music: melody, harmony, form, timbre and rhythm. Math, science, social studies and literacy skills are also reinforced through musical concepts.

In the music room we listen, sing, play instruments, move and compose our own music.  The music room is equipped with pianos, Orff instruments (non-pitched percussion and barred instruments) and ample space for movement activities. Music classes meet once a week for forty minutes.  Classes also take turns visiting the music room for sing-along sessions.  Music report cards are distributed the second and fourth marking periods.

Music is one of the many ways through which Indian Hollow students can feel united and work as a team.  These events include:

Spirit Days

100th Day Celebration

Read-A-Thon

Earth Day

Flag Day

Moving Up Day

Every child at Indian Hollow has the opportunity to perform with his or her grade level during the following special events:

Grade 2 Music, Art & Science Festival: March 31st 7pm
