Students at Indian Hollow Primary School annually celebrate
the 100th Day of school. Each class keeps track of the number of days
that we have been in school. On the 100th day, the entire school
celebrates all that we have accomplished thus far in the year. The purpose of
the celebration is to build
upon children's natural love and fascination of large numbers and to provide
them with the opportunity to conceptualize the number 100. Students begin the
day by walking through the numbers of our "100 Entrance." They then
follow 100 footsteps to reach their classroom
door. Throughout the day children are engaged in numerous 100 Day activities
which include creating 100 Day necklaces, making and eating soup with 100
ingredients, estimating how long it will take for 100 kernels of popcorn to pop,
and counting, weighing, measuring, sorting, graphing
and comparing 100's of
items. A highlight of the day is our 100 Day Mini Museum, which features
projects containing 100 items made by the children and their families. Students
and their parents are invited to view the
standing room only exhibit. At the end of the day there is a school-wide
assembly where children sing songs specifically written for the 100th
Day Celebration. |
