Our PIR Program – Partners in Reading – (formerly known as PARP - Parents As Reading Partners) is a successful cooperative program that was established in the late ‘80s and quickly adopted by schools and parents throughout our nation in an effort to promote a love of reading both in the home and at school. Family members - parents, guardians, grandparents, siblings and other trusted adults are encouraged to read to and with our children each and every day. The parents and staff of North Ridge enthusiastically support our PIR program through many our many PIR-related events. Special classroom activities, Arts-in Education Programs, building-wide celebrations, inclusion of guest readers, and our culminating grade-level Bagel Breakfasts are some of the ways in which we celebrate reading. For the past several years, North Ridge Primary School has celebrated 98% participation in our program. Our goal this year is a very ambitious 100%. We count on each and every one of our North Ridge families to help us achieve our goal. This year, owing to the exciting district-wide changes in our primary level Social Studies curriculum, we look forward to the creative redesign of our PIR Program. Our dedicated North Ridge staff members and PTA volunteers will work collaboratively this year to effect these exciting changes. Materials and newsletters will be forthcoming through our website, newsletters and communiqués. As always, we welcome your feedback and look forward to your suggestions as we continue to explore new and innovative ways to impart our love of reading to our children. |
