HUMAN DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Commack Wellness Day is, Saturday,
May 12 at CHS

The Human Development Committee was established by the Commack School District Board of Education as part of an on-going commitment to “educate the whole child” in the context of a caring community. Knowing the importance of blending the social and emotional aspect of learning with academic excellence, the Committee, under the direction of David Weiss, has been a vehicle for action research in grades K-12.

The members of the Human Development Committee include administrators, teachers, parents, psychologists, social workers, and students.  Character Education and Anti-bullying programs such as Second Step, Steps to Respect as well as professional training for teachers and workshops for parents have been provided, under the direction of the Committee.

This year, the Human Development Committee sub-committees have been working to develop recommendations to the District in the areas of:

  • Wellness for staff and families
  • Student Anti-Bullying Survey research and analysis.
  • Suicide Prevention Education
  • Family Reflection Nights/Home Involvement
