Commack High School Teacher Wins NYS Excellence in Teaching Award
NYS Award for teaching excellenceCommack High School math teacher, Christina Pawlowski, received The NY Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award. The award recognizes educational leaders (Pre-K-12) who exemplify the professional work of thousands of outstanding, progressive teachers and innovative educators striving to for excellence and success for all students. Dr. Guillermo Linares, President and CEO for New York State Higher Education, on behalf of the Governor's office, presented a “big check” and plaque at the surprise reception at the High School. Winners are recognized and awarded with a $5,000 stipend for their continued learning and professional endeavors. Also in attendance were administrators, colleagues, Ms. Pawlowski’s family, and many of her students.

NYS Teacher of ExcellenceMs. Pawlowski is an exemplary educator and a New York State Master Teacher, who has won numerous accolades, including being named Commack’s Teacher of the Year and finalist status as a New York State Teacher of the Year. She coaches and judges our high school math teams, and is a class advisor at the high school.

Superintendent of Commack Schools, Dr. Donald James, remarked, “At the ceremony today, you can just see how much Ms. Pawlowski is loved by her students, as exhibited by her IB students that attended today. It is evident that her enthusiasm for teaching has inspired her students to enjoy learning complex mathematical concepts in a truly interactive classroom environment. We are proud to have such a wonderful teacher in our District.”
