Updated Information from the District

We wanted to take the opportunity to address the arrest and subsequent media reports related to an evening custodian in the District. Further, we want to thank everyone for their patience as we took the time to do our due diligence so we can share accurate information with the community about this very concerning matter. At this time, we want to assure the community of the following:

1) The District had NO knowledge of this individual’s alleged actions outside of work, outside of the District, or in Patchogue;

2) The District has found NO evidence to date that he ever brought a weapon or drugs onto school property. We have searched the locker area, as well as his area of responsibility. We have also reviewed building-wide video footage and engaged in related interviews with pertinent individuals. To date, we have not found any suspicious activity on school property;

3) As required by law, upon hiring, the individual was fingerprinted and cleared by the State. Further, the State is required to notify us of any subsequent arrest. Prior to this incident, we received no such notifications;

4) The District is still investigating this matter and we have and will continue to cooperate fully with the SCPD (we are proud to work so closely with the fine men and women of the SCPD);

5) The District and its outside security consultant will continue to review its safety and security plans and determine whether or not additional precautions are warranted. Please be aware we may not be able to share with the community all changes made to our safety protocols;

6) We will continue to fully cooperate with the SCPD to prosecute this matter to the fullest extent of the law.  Our professional security staff, consisting primarily of experienced law enforcement personnel, will continue to work hand in hand with the SCPD, who are vigilant in their efforts in support of our school security for the safety of our students and staff. Please contact the SCPD directly if you have any information regarding this case.

As always, the safety and security of our students and staff is our first priority.
