Welcome to the Commack School
District: A Message from the Superintendent
On
behalf of the entire Commack community, I am pleased to welcome you to
the Commack School District. Our school district is high performing,
expresses high standards, and has had a great deal of success with
educating students in over 100 years of service. We have four primary
(grades K-2) schools, two intermediate (grades 3-5) schools, one middle
school (grades 6-8) and one high school (grades 9-12). Class sizes at
the elementary level are generally no larger than 25 students, and can
be slightly larger at the secondary level. The high school is
comprehensive, offering more than 100 electives for students in
virtually every area. It also boasts one of the largest International
Baccalaureate enrollments in the nation. In 2007, 103 of its 572
graduates were awarded the coveted International Baccalaureate Diploma.
More than 98% of all graduates in 2007 received a Regents Diploma, with
69% of them receiving the Advanced Regents designation. More than 95% of
Commack’s graduates move on to some form of post high school education.
Each of the district’s schools has an active
Parent Teacher Association, with a districtwide SEPTA for parents of
special education students. Please take the time to acquaint yourself
with the PTA officers in your child’s school. Our PTAs provide important
information about school events on almost a daily basis, and membership
in the PTA is a good way to meet new neighbors who share a common
interest. The hallmark
of a quality school district is the quality of its teachers. Each of our
teachers is fully certified, with several having obtained distinction
with National Board certification. Recently selected Teachers of the
Year have been finalists in the New York State competition. You will
find that your child’s teachers are uniformly caring and devoted to
providing the best possible education to their students.
We are proud of the accomplishments of our students. Each year we have
the opportunity to recognize literally hundreds of individual students
who have distinguished themselves through academic or athletic prowess.
We know that your child will find the same kind of success that all of
our students have achieved over the years. Best wishes for a highly
successful school career in Commack! James
