Mathematics:

 

First grade math involves many hands-on activities using manipulatives to help students comprehend the concepts. The following areas are part of the curriculum:

·       Numbers and Numeration:

-         count and identify numbers and numerals at 100

-         identify place value for ones and tens

-         identify ordinal numbers

-         identify basic fractions

-         explore odd and even numbers

-         skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s

·       Probability:

-         use symbols

-         use estimation and prediction

-         use patterns

·       Geometry and Measurement:

-identify basic shapes

- collect data and graph results

-interpret charts and graphs

-use tally marks to collect data

-understand concepts of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, days of week in a series, months, seasons

-measure time to half hour

-identify coins and know the value of penny, nickel, dime, and quarter

·       Reasoning:

-select appropriate operation to solve problems

-write and draw number stories

-sort and classify
