The ALC Class
The Western Suffolk BOCES Alternate Learning Center (ALC) class at Rolling Hills is comprised of six primary-aged special needs learners. Students may live in Commack and/or neighboring school districts. Classroom staff includes a full time special education teacher, a half time speech and language therapist and psychologist, and four full time paraprofessionals. Students are mainstreamed based upon their needs and their strengths. Mainstreamed students are accompanied by a trained paraprofessional. The students also participate in social activities, lunch and recess with their "buddy class," a first grade class in the building. They attend all building assemblies. Academic goals are based on each individual students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
