The Rolling Hills Primary School Library Newsletter

September 2008

Welcome to a New School Year!

I hope the school year has gotten off to a good start for you and your child. Your child will be visiting the library once a week. The library is a wonderful place which provides a supportive atmosphere for students to learn reading and library skills and foster a love of reading.

I enjoy working with all the students and sharing my love of reading and books with them. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance to you during the school year.

~Theresa Haar

Please note: Future issues of the library newsletter will appear on the Rolling Hills page of the Commack School District website.

Text Box: “Students who read the most, read the best, achieve the most, and stay in school the longest.”

GOOD CHARACTER AWARD

The Good Character Award will continue this year.

One student per class who displays excellent behavior and character during library (i.e., showing respect for the library, library materials, staff, and other students) will receive the opportunity to check out a second book. The students will also be recognized with a certificate to bring home. I am sure that every student at Rolling Hills will be recognized at least once before the end of the school year.

Library Procedures and Policies:

§       Students may check out one book per week during his or her regularly scheduled library period.

§       Students may renew their book.

§       We will give the student a reminder if the book has been forgotten two or more weeks in a row.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Text Box: Author of the Month

Each month the library will feature a special display of an author. For September, the author of the month is Eric Carle, a well-known author and illustrator who is most likely familiar to even our youngest students. Perhaps his best-known book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, one of the “very” books that include The Very Busy Spider, The Very Lonely Firefly, The Very Quiet Cricket. Eric Carle is still writing and illustrating; his latest book is The Rabbit and the Turtle & Other Aesop's Fables

Birthday Book Club

Last year, we began the Birthday Book Club. Parents who participated donated a book in honor of their child’s birthday. The RH Library received over 50 books. These books are among the most popular in our collection! To those who participated last year, THANK YOU FROM THE STUDENTS AT ROLLING HILLS! We will continue the program this year. Look for a letter during your child’s birthday month!
