Physical
Education
During
Physical Education class, the Rolling Hills students will be engaging in a broad range of activities including basic locomotor movements, opportunities for gross and fine motor development, cooperative play, fitness and wellness activities, yoga, sports, nutrition activities, and much more. The curriculum will address the New York State Learning Standards, and will be a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program. My main goal as their K-2 Physical Education teacher is to inspire the children to have a passion and love for physical activity and exercise, as I do. The benefits of daily physical activity are endless and include everything from improved self-esteem and confidence to greater academic success. Any movement or exercise you do with your child at home is encouraged. The greatest influence on a child’s lifestyle choices is his/her family. Character education will also be a main focus during Physical Education lessons this year as I feel the gymnasium is a great place for the students to learn many of the characteristics we love to see them exhibit. For example, the gym provides opportunities to teach students about sharing equipment, being a leader and respecting their fellow classmates. I have high expectations for all of my students, and hold them to the same level of accountability for kindness and appropriate behavior as their classroom teachers. The students have been progressing beautifully in Physical Education class and I look forward to a wonderful school year! Some Physical Education highlights that your children will participate in this year at Rolling Hills include:
