General Meeting - October 20, 2003

  

 

  1. CALL TO ORDER 7:35 p.m.
    1. PRESIDENT’S REPORT Welcome to everyone. Copies of By-laws distributed for review and passage. Debbie Virga is guest speaker tonight.
    2. MRS. STUDLEYWelcome to parents & staff. Buses running very well. Hubbs bulletin board looks great. Gatherings now include families. STAR program has begun. Some classes will perform presentations at the Gathering in a few weeks. Arts in Education – Mr. Cossio made masks with 1st grade students. “Spark & the Stranger” program was presented to students to teach them about stranger danger. Amelia Bedelia program is scheduled in November for all students. Kindergarten students went to White Post Farms. Reminders about Fall Festival and Autism walk. Book Fair in progress. UNICEF collection goes from 10/27 to 11/3. Still collecting eyeglasses for donations. The week of 10/27, Mrs. Studley will visit all classes to read to students & hand out bookmarks. Introduction of teachers & staff members attending tonight’s meeting.

 

Membership still going on. Chairs must be PTA members. Please give Debbie & Jacki e-mail addresses.

 

Guest speaker Debbie Virga talked about district-wide programs.

  1. TREASURER’S REPORT – (Rosario Bopp)
    1. Nancy Nestola reported for the audit committee.
    2. Balance on hand: $11,802.

 

  1. CORRESPONDING SECRETARY (Janine Rosen) – Read thank you notes from Castrogiovanni family and Mrs. White. 2 Sharing folders passed around.
  2. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES
    1. Vice Presidents (Donna McGarty & Denise Britt) –  Need 2nd chair for Communication Committee.
    2. Council (Shari Slepian & Allyson Lavenda) – Last meeting on 10/1. Focus groups being held on budget Founders’ Day date moved to 2/5/04, to be held at the Melville Marriott. SEPTA reported that this year’s memberships doubled.
    3. School Board (Cathy Brase & Nancy Nestola) – Last meeting was Board Recognition night. Presentations made.  

 

      6.  School Based Management ­ - Met on 10/20. Working on reading initiatives.

 

  1. BY-LAWS - Expire in January, 2004. Committee met over the summer to make revisions. Reviewed. Motion to approve By-laws made by Sue Nissen. Approved.

 

  1. FOUNDERS’ DAY – New guidelines distributed and discussed. Motion to approve Founders’ Day guidelines made by Sue Nissen. Approved.

  1.   COMMITTEE REPORTS
    1. Arts-in-Education (Janine Rosen, Alexandria DeJoseph) - “Spark & the Stranger” program held. Theatreworks coming on 11/3 to present “Amelia Bedelia for Mayor” as a P.A.R.P. kick-off program

             b. Angel Box (Sue Nissen, Marisol Gracin) – Discussed Autism Walk.

c.     Bake Sale (Doreen Rose, Joy Wechter) – Scheduled for the 2 half days in November.  Pampered Chef fundraiser will be held during bake sale.

d.    Blood Drive (Nancy Nestola, Joy Wechter) – Being held on 11/18 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Being held at CMS.

               e. Box Tops (Rose Ann Maggiore, Anne Sciacca) – Motion made by

Sue Nissen to have a $50 budget for Box Tops to buy gifts. approved.

                 f. Book Fair (Cathy Brase) - Running very well. Thank you to all

                     volunteers.

                g. Fall Festival (Laura Neville, Mary Tinschert, Catherine Kurten, Katie

                Kunz) Saturday, 10/25 from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

                h. Fund Raising (Mary Tinschert) – Sold $11,000 worth of wrapping

paper. Merchandise will be available for pick up during all

parent/teacher conference hours.

                i. Fashion Show (Marisol Gracin, Mary Tinschert) – To be held at

Smithtown Sheraton in March, 2004.

                 j. Halloween Happening (Nancy Lupo) – To be held at CHS on 10/31.

                 k. Health & Safety (Malika Syed, Katie Kunz) – No report.

                 l. Holiday Boutique (Nancy Gomes) – To be held on 12/1 through

 12/4.

                m. Membership (Ellie Austin, Allyson Lavenda) – Going well.

                 n. Nutrition (Maryann Caraturo, Janine DeGirolamo) – Cafeteria

inspected.

                 o. Scholarship (Maryann Caraturo) – College-bound seniors are

eligible for a $1,250 scholarship. Funded by Turkey Raffle.

                 p. Picture Day (Lisa Sampson, Rosanna Iori) – Went well.

                 q. P.A.R.P. (Sharon Shaw, Renee Turkiewicz) – Starts in 2 weeks on

11/3.

                 r. Reflections (Carol Gallipoli) – Chaired by Mrs. Studley. Small

steering committee here at RH to judge, but all participants will

receive recognition.

                 s. School Store (Maryann Fetzer, Eleanor Stentiford) – Profit due to RH

clothing sales. RH sweatshirts are ordered as the orders are

received.

                 t. SEPTA (Eleanor Stentiford) – 1st meeting was held on 10/14. Next

                   meeting will be on 11/18 at CMS. Guest speaker with topic: “De-

stressing Homework & Study Time @ Home”. Will be at 7:30 p.m.

                 u. RHingo (Rose Ann Maggiore) – To be held on 11/14 at RH. Sales

limited to 300 tickets.

                 v. Sunshine (Allyson Lavenda) – Winner of 50/50 raffle is Robin

Guarino.

 

  1. NEW BUSINESS

A.    Mrs. Altschuler attended a meeting this past summer regarding parliamentary procedures. Must belong to SEPTA to be able to vote at their meetings.

B.    Mrs. Studley met with the Safety & Transportation Committee. Discussed damaged playground equipment. Repairs made. Other repairs to be made around the school building. Will get handicap ramp installed. Front concrete to be repaired. Received 2 posters for Fire Prevention Week.

C.   Thank you to:  Janet McQueeney for the Directory. Pat Regan for distribution. Lisa Sampson & Rosanna Iori for Picture Day. Mary Tinschert for work on Wrapping Paper Fund Raiser.  Gail Canavan for the Newsletter. Renee Turkiewicz and Sharon Shaw for the P.A.R.P. Bulletin Board. Janine Rosen for Arts-in-Education.

D.   President’s Roundtable meeting scheduled for 10/21.

E.     Mrs. Studley complimented RH staff on beautiful work done in the front garden. Mums were planted.
