| Music is a part of our everyday
life here at Wood Park Primary School. The music program at the K-2 level is
designed to give the children an appreciation and awareness of music. It is our
goal that all children discover their musical potential. Commack has it's own music curriculum which is based on the New York State Standards for the Arts and is integrated with classroom curriculum. Children learn about five different elements of music: melody, rhythm, form, timbre and harmony by experiencing them in carefully sequenced activities. Together in the music room we sing, play instruments, listen and compose our own tunes. Every class meets once a week for a forty minute fun-filled music lesson. Our music room is equipped with Orff instruments, a G-3 Mac Computer including software and a midi keyboard, and a piano. We also have an excellent amount of space in the music room for movement activities, such as marching to the beat or stepping notation. Music is experienced in many ways here at Wood Park. Some musical highlights include: o Our Character Ed song o Patriotic songs sung for Heroes Day Celebrations o Winter Festivals for each grade level o 100th Day Celebration o Family Fun Day o Earth Day o Spring Festivals for each grade level o Moving Up Day Ceremonies o 2nd grade musicals and plays Please encourage your child's musical interests at home. Sing and dance together! Listen to great music while driving together! Go to concerts together! Wood Park is just the beginning of many musical opportunities and experiences for your child available in the Commack School District. We look forward to creating music together for a lifetime. Character Song Sharing, helping together. How to be a friend, how to treat others. Who we want to be starts with Character!
Be respectful, be trustworthy, honesty, responsibility. Try your best to play fairly. Won’t you come along and join us in this song.
We’re learning lots of things about character. Sharing, helping together. How to be a friend, how to treat others. Who we want to be starts with Character! |
