The Library is the hub of our school, where an appreciation of literature and a love of reading are fostered.  Children have Library Class once each week for forty minutes. Our library lessons support the New York State Learning Standards and grade level curriculums. Library class consists of a 30 minute lesson/activity and ten minutes of book selection. 

We explore different book genres by actively participating in read-alouds and flannel board stories, having book talks, acting with puppets and performing rhymes and songs. Children at Wood Park are exposed to award winning literature, new books and the classics. In addition to literature appreciation, students learn how to effectively use the library for academic pursuit, as well as for enjoyment.

The library staff strives to promote life long learning.   Each week children are encouraged to choose books based on their personal interests and reading level. Our library is automated. Each child is special at the library and has their own library card. We strive to accommodate any special requests that your child has. We discuss the responsibility involved with borrowing materials and students learn to properly care for their library materials. Each child may borrow one book each library visit.

Special occasions are part of the library experience.  We celebrate the birthdays of and read the literature of famous authors. Children's Book Week in November and National Library Week in April are a major cause for celebration!  Parents are an integral part of the library program at Wood Park.  Feel free to browse our Destiny Library Catalog from home.
