All communication for the following procedures will occur through the District's Connect Ed System

Delayed School Opening Procedures may be put in place on days when it appears that the schools may open safely at a later time.  The opening will be delayed for one or two hours.  School will open at either 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m., depending on whether we have a one or a two hour delayed opening. Bus pickups would be adjusted accordingly.  Please consider the weather conditions and allow for flexibility on these days.  Our lunch program and our dismissal will take place at the regular time.

Early School Closing Procedures will be put into effect on days when it appears this would be the safest way to dismiss students.  A decision will be made by the Superintendent of Schools and will be immediately relayed to the individual buildings and to the community. 

On an Early Dismissal Day, the children are expected to follow normal dismissal procedures, whether it be by bus or by transportation provided by parents.  Early in the school year, you completed and returned the Early Dismissal Card.  This remains with the classroom teacher.  A copy remains in the main office.  On this card you have indicated either A or B.  (A) "If the school is dismissed before the regular dismissal time, I have instructed my child/children to go to either of the following homes  (in order of preference).  I have also informed these neighbors of these instructions."  (B) "If school is dismissed before the regular dismissal time, my child/children have my permission to go to our home even if parent(s) are not at home."  The information  you have indicated on these cards will be shared with your child so that he/she will know what to do if you are not home.

 If you have any question whether or not school is closed, or if you have any question whether there will be a delayed school opening or an early dismissal, various methods are available to you to obtain that information.

Radio stations will carry the Commack School District announcements. 

If you have any question regarding the information you supplied on the Early Dismissal Card, please call the main office and we will read that information to you.  Please review with your child, the early dismissal procedure he or she is to follow in the event of an early school closing.
