Discussion: Ms. Urbelis distributed the words to our morning patriotic song.  The pledge is pre-recorded and the pacing is appropriate.

Conclusion: We will continue with our school-wide pledge and song!  This item will be removed from the agenda next month.

Discussion:  It was reported that Indian Hollow does not have a science fair.  A “Science Share” or “Science Showcase” might be more developmentally appropriate and meaningful for the primary students.   Each primary and intermediate school has special and enriching events that are specific to their own building’s culture. 

Conclusion:   Investigation is completed.

Discussion:

Review the school wide pledge, -The pledge has been prerecorded.  The  song  “You’re a Grand Old Flag” is played following the pledge.  The song can be changed periodically for other patriotic songs.  Parent Handbook                         Emergency Response Plan

Discussion:  The staff is receptive to the idea.  The children will vote on the icon to be used.
                          There will be only one option offered (not multiple choices)
                          The PTA will help with the funding and the organization of this project.

Conclusion:  This project will go forward.            Mrs. Myers (PTA) will be contacted.

Discussion:   We discussed existing science fair programs (Indian Hollow).  We discussed the Brookhaven Lab Fair  (How to be a part of it).We discussed the effectiveness for the participants.

 

Conclusion:  A  school science fair  would probably be more  appropriate for second grade. We will check with other schools that have fairs.       We will check with Jim Engledrum.We will contact Brookhaven Lab about their  existing fair.

Discussion:   Can we use our science garden for environmental education?   We looked at the description of the available early elementary programs  from NYS.

 

Conclusion:   We will check to see if these programs can work for us using the Wood Park Science Garden.

Reviewed the SBMT Summary Chart and discussed the importance of reviewing our Emergency Management Plan at our October meeting.  Mrs. Collison informed the committee the Parent Handbook will be online by the end of September.   Wood Park will begin their school-wide pledge the week of September 29th.
