In accordance with the provisions of the “Open Meetings Law,” the Board of Education of the Commack Union Free School District shall hold its Regular Meeting and Budget Hearing on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Hubbs Administration Building, 480 Clay Pitts Road, East Northport, NY 11731. It is anticipated that the Board of Education will make a motion for the purpose of adjourning into Executive Session at this time, and at 8:00 p.m. the Board will reconvene in Public Session for the purpose of holding its Regular Business Meeting.  Please note, that the District will adhere to the District’s policy that speakers will be limited to 3-minutes. This summer, the Commack School District will once again offer students an opportunity to attend summer camp. The Commack Discovery Camp will be a one to four-week program offered to students entering grades K-3.

 

The cost for students to attend will be $210 per week and families can choose which weeks to sign up for. Students will participate in various activities each day, including movement, cooperative activities, free-play, organized events, physical education, arts & crafts, musical activities, hands-on science and math discovery, and project-based literacy projects.

The Commack School District proudly has obtained LifeVac devices to further protect students and staff in the event someone experiences choking.

Our Director of community relations, Debbie Virga, visited Commack North Little League to raise awareness of the life-saving device, which is now located in the league’s concession stand. She also will be in touch with Commack South Little League and Commack Soccer.

A pair of Commack High School students wowed VIPs in the audience during their winter performances in “Mamma Mia.”

Dara G. and Julia L. have been invited to represent CHS at the prestigious Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance workshop. They will have the opportunity to work with Broadway actors and musicians and receive constructive critiques.

The top 50 students at the workshop will be invited to the Jimmy Awards on June 24 at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre. That event recognizes high school theatre achievers nationwide.

More than two dozen former Jimmy Award winners as high school students currently are on Broadway or on Broadway national tours.

Dara and Julia were selected by a committee that came to view CHS’ “Mamma Mia” production.

First graders learned about moon phases and the constellations during a visit from the Long Island Science Center on Friday.

Students were greeted in the gymnasium by the StarLab inflatable planetarium for 30-minute sessions.

They saw satellite images in the mobile planetarium of the night sky and galaxy.

CHS junior Camryn H. has produced an award-winning photograph.Camryn, who is taking digital photography, won first place for her “Something Blue" submission in the annual Huntington Camera Club high school competition.

High school students from throughout Huntington township and beyond compete in several categories for recognition and awards. Since its inception in 1991, the event has grown. It now regularly receives more than 800 annual submissions.

The reception and award ceremony will take place on Tuesday evening at the Huntington Library.

Consistent with past years, the Commack Union Free School District has applied for a waiver of the school breakfast program.

This waiver was requested after a poll of primary, intermediate and middle school parents determined that the large majority of families would not avail themselves of a breakfast program.
