In a scene reminiscent of Mr. Holland's Opus, Commack sent retiring Dr. Frank Hansen out with a bang in his final concert.

A series of post-concert speeches from current students and colleagues was followed by Dr. Hansen being surprised by dozens of alums joining him at the front of the CHS auditorium.

"This has been my home for 28 years," Dr. Hansen said. "I'm just so grateful. My heart is full of so much love.”

The final song directed by Dr. Hansen: Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.
