Now Serving! ... Food Truck Set to Roll Out

Food trucks are a popular choice for many food connoisseurs.
Now, the rage has arrived in Commack.
Commack Schools has unveiled a new food truck, which will soon be making stops at schools throughout the district as well as at sporting events and other community activities.
Among its first stops, the food truck will serve breakfast to high school students at the 5 a.m. pep rally on Friday, when CBS New York will broadcast its morning show live from the high school and feature students and our innovative programs.
Commack is the first school district on Long Island to unveil its own food truck.
Chef Chris from Whitsons Culinary Group will serve as the food truck’s chef.
The food truck was purchased as a result of the rousing success of Commack’s lunch program — using proceeds from that program and not taxpayer dollars.
Whitsons and the district strive to make lunch a healthy and desirable option for students.
Guest chefs frequently visit Commack’s schools. That includes students blending their own healthy shakes using stationary bicycles and promotions tied to events, such as wings being served leading into Super Bowl weekend.
Commack’s food truck is wrapped with the district’s black and gold colors and features a paw on each side.
“We were inspired to think outside the box and create something that could serve the entire community,” said Christine Kunnman, Whitsons Culinary Group’s vice president of operations. “The idea of a food truck that could travel throughout the district and offer a unique style of service emerged as the next ‘big thing’ for Commack.
“The food truck will offer a variety of fresh, student-friendly meals. It will rotate special menu themes based on cultural celebrations or local ingredients. Beyond meals, the truck can provide services such as nutrition education, hands-on cooking demonstrations, and even host school-spirit events or fundraisers.
“By being mobile, flexible and innovative, the food truck will bring excitement and engagement to all schools across the district — enhancing both wellness and community connection.”
