Football Season Opens with 'Friday Night Lights'

Friday Night Lights proved a huge success at Commack High School.
Not only did the varsity football team decisively defeat West Babylon, 35-7, in the season opener under portable lights, but school spirit was on display throughout the evening.
At halftime, the marching band provided a preview of its Oct. 22 performance at the Newsday Marching Band Festival at the Mitchel Athletic Complex. The Halloween-themed selections included the theme from “Ghostbusters.”
The reigning national champion Cougarettes also performed at halftime, while the cheerleaders kept the crowd — including a large and spirited student section — engaged throughout the game.
Youth football players led the Cougars football players onto the field. And the CHS chorus opened the evening by performing the national anthem.
The portable lights were donated by the football booster club.
