Senator Mattera, CHS Alums Talk Trades to Close Week of Schools of Study Guest Speakers

State Senator Mario Mattera and a pair of CHS alums capped an informative week of guest speakers representing various professions with an exclamation point.
Mattera, who spent 43 years as a member and leader of the Local 200 Plumbers Union, joined Long Island Rail Road electrician Zach Panas ’07 and heavy machinery operator Brian McCort ’13 for a panel discussion on Friday with students enrolled in CHS’ School of Vocational and Technical Skills.
The group discussed how much they enjoy their profession as well as the financial security it can provide, including the potential ability to have a pension. They also discussed their work schedules, what a typical day entails and the hiring process.
“One of the best times of my life was being on the construction site,” Sen. Mattera told the students.
Friday’s panel capped an engaging week. Juniors enrolled in the high school’s eight Schools of Study had the opportunity to hear from guest speakers currently excelling in fields matching the students’ interests.
