Wood Park second graders in Shelly Atlas and Cara DeVita's buddy classes harvested assorted lettuce from the primary school's tower garden on Monday afternoon.

Basil, arugula, Bibb, gourmet lettuce and romaine are headed home with the students for a nutritious appetizer option at dinner.

Second-grade classes at all primary schools get a turn throughout the school year planting seeds in tower gardens and then watching them develop into fully grown vegetables.

The tower gardens are vertical planting structures that are equipped with their own light and watering sources.
