School of Liberal Studies Welcomes Dr. Stephen Ostendorff to Discuss the College Application Process

On Wednesday morning, CHS students in the School of Liberal Studies were thrilled to welcome Dr. Stephen Ostendorff, Vice President of Admissions at Molloy University, who shared his invaluable insights on the college journey.
Dr. Ostendorff spoke extensively about the pathway of a Liberal Studies major, offering a fresh perspective on a common source of anxiety for high school students: entering college without a declared major. Rather than labeling students as “undecided,” Dr. Ostendorff encouraged them to embrace the term “exploring.” He highlighted how a Liberal Studies background provides a versatile and dynamic foundation that allows students to discover their true passions.
In addition to reframing the mindset around choosing a major, Dr. Ostendorff demystified the college application process. He provided students with practical advice on how to navigate admissions and emphasized the importance of utilizing campus resources. By taking advantage of advising, career centers, and mentorship, students can effectively turn their diverse interests into fulfilling future careers.
