Commack Physical Education Teacher Ed Boll Receives STAR Award for Career Dedication

Dr. Jordan Cox presented physical education teacher Ed Boll with the Commack STAR Award on Friday morning during the district’s Superintendent's Conference Day.
Highlighting Boll’s long-standing dedication to the school community, Cox emphasized the teacher's profound impact over the course of his career.
"I am here today to present the STAR Award to someone who has been going above and beyond their entire career," Cox said during the presentation. "For over 5,000 days this teacher has been hard at work, and I am honored to be here today to present the Commack STAR Award to Ed Boll."
Known affectionately by staff and students as Ed, Eddie or Boll, he serves as the physical education department lead. According to Cox, Boll's curriculum goes far beyond the traditional rules and skills of sports; he focuses heavily on teaching students to take responsibility for themselves, put forth genuine effort and understand how to effectively communicate.
His contributions to the district extend well outside of regular school hours. Boll coaches three athletic seasons, oversees CSIP and helps run Commack's Cougar Camp every summer. Within his department, he is recognized for his willingness to assist colleagues, mentor new teachers and encourage peers to implement innovative learning experiences.
"Ed has a great ability to connect with people of all backgrounds and interests," one colleague shared in a statement read at the ceremony. "He is also a great mentor and is someone who I know I can depend on."
Cox concluded the presentation by praising Boll's enthusiasm and its enduring effect on the district.
"It is so clear to anyone who watches Ed work that he truly loves what he does," Cox said. "His energy and positive spirit make a lasting impact on our students every single day. Thank you for your passion, your hard work, and for being such a vital part of the Commack family."
