Commack Middle School ENL Teachers Receive STAR Award

Superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox presented CMS ENL teachers Christine Fields and Stephanie Zwiebel with the Commack STAR Award during a CMS faculty meeting Monday afternoon. This marks the first time that the district has presented two Star Awards simultaneously at CMS.
Dr. Cox praised the teachers as exceptional professionals whose work reflects the highest standards of excellence and compassion. He noted that they serve as both counselors and mentors while supporting the whole child. Their daily efforts include guiding students through the building and modifying classroom assignments to meet diverse learning needs. They also reach out to families in multiple languages and ensure students have access to after school activities. He also highlighted their caring nature and ability to build trusting relationships with students and families. They consistently communicate translated materials and collaborate with colleagues to support student success.
“This team embodies the IB Learner Profile in every way,” Dr. Cox said. He described them as open minded professionals who embrace cultural diversity and foster a welcoming environment for all learners.
The pair also act as thinkers and inquirers who develop creative solutions to daily challenges. These solutions include coordinating transportation and connecting families with local food pantries. As principled educators, they advocate for equity and inclusion while continuously seeking ways to improve their practice. They serve as balanced role models who support both academic growth and the emotional wellbeing of their students.
“Christine and Stephanie exemplify what it means to be Commack Stars, and our ENL students are incredibly fortunate to have them,” Dr. Cox said. Congratulations to both Christine and Stephanie and thank you for your inspiring work and profound impact on the CMS community!
