Eighth Graders Earn Prestigious State Recognition for Leadership and Character


Eighth grade students at Commack Middle School are earning top honors from the state for their dedication to their community and school. The New York State Attorney General recently recognized Demma O. and Mia M. with prestigious civic awards. These accolades highlight the exceptional leadership and character found within the CMS student body.
Demma O. is the recipient of the New York State Attorney General Civic Ambassador Award. The state awarded her this recognition for her passion and commitment to civics and government. She continues to display excellent communication and leadership skills both in and out of the classroom. Demma is consistent high-honor roll student, who balances many activities to keep herself well-rounded. She is involved in track, travel soccer, NYSSMA, Select Chorus, Orchestra and the Long Island String Association. She is quite an accomplished student who has also published a book, has been a part of Mock Trial, Math competitions, and the Science Olympiad, and has a bright future ahead of her.
Mia M. is the CMS recipient of the State Attorney General Triple “C” Award. The honor acknowledges the courage, character and commitment of selected students across New York. She is a high honor roll student who consistently puts forth her best effort in her academics. Her teachers note she is “a courageous young lady who has triumphed at school while facing obstacles in her life.” The eighth grader is also a well balanced student who participates in numerous extracurricular activities. She serves as secretary for the Cause for Paws Club and is a member of Select Chorus, NYSSMA, the Beekeeping Club and school musicals. Both students serve as remarkable role models for their peers across the district.
