Congratulations to LJ B. and Riley B. on being presented the John Newman Scholarship Friday afternoon at Commack Middle School!

John Newman was a lifetime resident of Commack and parishioner of Christ the King parish for 67 years. He was a St Anthony’s High School Hall of Fame inductee who coached baseball and basketball for 35 years. Newman was the coordinator for the Christ the King CYO Program for over 10 years and received the CYO role model award recognizing his impact on hundreds of children.

To honor Coach John Newman’s legacy, the Christ the King Parish offers a scholarship to an 8th grade middle school boy or girl who participated in the Christ the King CYO program. LJ and Riley have exemplified the values of faith, good character and fair play. These students support their teammates, treat the other team with respect, and always have a positive attitude.
