Members of the Commack community gathered Friday evening to remember, honor, and pay tribute to the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001. The free event brought residents together for a patriotic and somber ceremony marking the 25th anniversary.

The program opened with a procession featuring bagpipes played by Mike Malloy, followed by the presentation of colors by the United States Army Color Guard. Marine Corps League Past Commandant Rocky Paduano led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Commack High School Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Wendy Frankonis, performed the National Anthem. Deacon Louis Anatrella then delivered the invocation before distinguished guest speakers addressed the crowd.

Guest speakers included Senator Mario Mattera, Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, Allen Bode, who serves as Chief Assistant to District Attorney Ray Tierney, and James Ryder.

A traditional wreath ceremony followed, featuring dedicated wreaths for EMS, FDNY, NYPD, and the Port Authority. The wreaths were placed by the families of 9/11 victims alongside families of post-9/11 victims.

Alan Orloff performed the traditional Ringing of the Bells, leading the community into a solemn moment of silence. The ceremony continued with a 21 Gun Salute and the playing of Taps by Chris Toomey. Deacon Louis Anatrella returned to offer the benediction to conclude the formal portion of the service.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, attendees viewed a patriotic and somber 500-drone tribute designed specifically for the 25th anniversary. Award-winning drone entertainment company Sky Elements brought the light show to life, featuring meaningful images and music to honor those remembered by the community.
