CHS Culinary Students Prepare Lunch for 800 Fellow Students

CHS seniors who study culinary arts at Wilson Tech are putting their skills to the test on Thursday as they prepare and serve lunch to 800 fellow students.
In partnership with Whitsons Culinary Group, the five students arrived at the CHS cafeteria’s kitchen at 7 a.m. and prepared chicken teriyaki with grilled vegetables as well as brownie jubilee dessert. Tofu also was seared for non-chicken consumers.
Seniors Cody A., Brendan C., Jake G., Justin K. and Dean K. were unflappable as they completed chopping onions, grilling vegetables, and cooking chicken and rice by a 9:40 a.m. deadline under the watchful eye of Chef Tony from Whitsons.
The students then were up front to serve their fellow students.
Chef Tony noted that preparing 800 meals is a multiple of what a typical restaurant would prepare during an equivalent period.
Three of the five soon-to-be CHS/Wilson Tech graduates plan to enroll at Johnson & Wales in the fall. They may be able to graduate from the Providence school in three years rather than four years because of all of the credits they have accumulated through Wilson Tech.
